From the moment I stepped inside , it was apparent that hygiene was not a priority at this venue. The ground was covered in grime , and a foul smell of old alcohol and neglected washrooms suffused the entire pub. With a smell of a mixture of urine , decay and a sickly smell. The counter , which should be the focal point of any pub, was cluttered with dirty glasses and litter that looked like it hadn’t been touched in ages . The toilet was in even a more revolting state — clogged , with a snapped lever and tiles smeared in what I can only assume was human excrement .
It wasn’t just a one-off bad night either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and conversing with residents , it seems that the quality of upkeep (or lack thereof) at Masterson’s is a well-known flaw . Many visitors have reported observing cockroaches darting across the bar area and evidence of rodent infestations in the bar and house area .
